All 'dolled up' for New Year's Eve

Updated: Sep 8, 2019

When preparing for a night out, my first thought is always"what am I going to wear?!" (Immediately followed by, "what am I going to eat?!" but that's a post for another day.)

New Year's Eve can be a tricky night to dress for because there's that inner struggle of wanting to look fierce, and not wanting to freeze my ass off. Over the years, I have graduated from slinky dresses and bare legs, to long sleeves and leather jackets - and I ain't mad about it. Ok, there's still some bare legs in there, but it's a classy amount.

I've got all your levels of fancy covered in my top picks below - and although you may think this is a paid ad for Express clothing, I can assure you, it is not - I just happen to really like shopping there.

1. Sleek and sparkly

I felt like a walking bottle of bubbly in this pink glittery number. The ruched style is sexy and compliments all curves, while the length gives it a bit more sophisticated feel.

2. Leather and sequins

You can never go wrong with leather. Complete the look with black tights and booties to help keep you cozy while bar hopping. And definitely accent with diamonds!

3. LGD

Black is out, jewel tones are in! Yes, this little green dress is the same style as the pink one above - I love how comfortable and warm it is, so I have two. This color pairs well with a statement necklace and a pink lip.

Marketed as "sweater dresses," I would categorize them as bodycons - there is nothing thick or frumpy about them. Express online currently has five available colors, all on SALE!

3. Winter white

A little more casual look pairs well with tassel heels and muted nails. Perfect for a low key evening at home accompanied by friends, wine, and of course, a cheeseboard.

5. Rent the Runway ballgown

If you're doing it up big this year and want to feel like royalty, THIS is the outfit you need. The ballgown style is extremely flattering in all the right places, comfortable and super fun to twirl in. Finish off the look with a deep red lip and you will own the night.

Accessorizing is key - these outfits wouldn't be half as much fun without all the extras! Keep in mind though, sometimes "less is more" (ex. RTR ballgown), so choose your pieces wisely.
